Nelsonville water outage SR691, bike path to Kimberly Rd, Kimberly Rd, SR691 to Wolfe Bennett Rd, Wed, 3/9/22, 9AM to 3PM

The Nelsonville Water Department will be shutting off water service on State Route 691 from the bike path to Kimberly Road and Kimberly Road from State Route 691 to Wolfe Bennett Road, on Wednesday, March 9, 2022, from 9:00AM until 3:00PM. The water outage is due work on the waterline allowing crews to tie in a new waterline. When water service is restored, there will be a boil order until 3:00PM, Thursday, March 10, 2022.

When a boil order is in effect, we ask all who are affected to boil their cooking and drinking water for three minutes before being consumed.

The National Weather Service has issued a FLOOD WATCH for Athens County in effect until 1:00 PM, Monday, March 7, 2022.

  • WHAT – Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible.
  • WHERE – Portions of northeast Kentucky, southeast Ohio and West Virginia, including the following counties, in northeast Kentucky, Boyd, Carter, Greenup and Lawrence KY. In southeast Ohio, Athens, Gallia, Jackson OH, Lawrence OH, Meigs and Vinton. In West Virginia, Cabell, Jackson WV, Lincoln, Mason, Putnam, Roane, Wayne, Wirt and Wood.
  • WHEN – Until 1:00 PM, Monday, March 7, 2022.
  • IMPACTS – Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.

Nelsonville puts traffic signal to flashing for 90 days before removal at 2 intersections, use caution!

The City of Nelsonville has placed the traffic lights to flash red and yellow for 90 days at the following intersections,

  • East Washington Street and Fort Street
  • Burr Oak Boulevard and Chestnut Street

After the 90 days the traffic lights will be removed from the intersections.

Here is how you should treat a traffic signal flashing red or yellow.

  • Flashing red stop signal: Operators of vehicles shall stop at a clearly marked stop line, but if none, before entering the crosswalk on the near side of the intersection, or if none, then at the point nearest the intersecting roadway where the driver has a view of approaching traffic on the intersecting roadway before entering it, and the right to proceed shall be subject to the rules applicable after making a stop at a stop sign.
  • Flashing yellow caution signal: Operators of vehicles may proceed through the intersection or past such signal only with caution.
