The National Weather Service has issued an EXTREME HEAT WARNING for Athens County in effect from 11:00 AM, Tuesday, June 30, 2026, until 10:00 PM, Friday, July 3, 2026.

WHAT…Dangerously hot conditions with heat index values up to 108 expected.

WHERE…Portions of northeast Kentucky, southeast Ohio, and central, northern, southern, and western West Virginia.

WHEN…From 11:00 AM, Tuesday, June 30, 2026, until 10:00 PM, Friday, July 3, 2026.

IMPACTS…Heat related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat and high humidity events.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS…An extended period of hot and humid conditions are expected, peaking on Thursday.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

DO NOT leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.
