ATHENS COUNTY LEVEL 2 SNOW EMERGENCY

Athens County is under a LEVEL 2 SNOW EMERGENCY.  Roadways are hazardous with blowing and drifting snow. Roads may also be very icy. Only those who feel it is necessary to drive should be out on the roads. Contact your employer to see if you should report to work. Motorists should use extreme caution.

ATHENS CO FLOOD WATCH, 1PM SAT, 1/19/19 UNTIL 4AM SUN, 1/20/19, WATCH FOR CHANGING WEATHER CONDITIONS

Flood Watch

The National Weather Service in Charleston has issued a Flood Watch for Athens County from 1PM Saturday, 1/19/19 until 4AM Sunday, 1/20/19.

Rain will overspread the area Saturday and continue into the overnight hours. Rainfall amounts between 1 and 2 inches are forecast. Ground conditions are wet, and most of this rain is expected to runoff into streams, creeks and rivers. This will cause strong rises and possible flooding conditions throughout the watch area.

Flooding of low lying and poor drainage areas, and roads along streams, creeks and rivers is possible.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS:
A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on current forecasts. You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.

WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT FOR ATHENS COUNTY FROM MIDNIGHT SATURDAY, 1/19/19 TO 9AM SUNDAY, 1/20/19

  • WHAT – Wintry mix expected. Total snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches and a light glaze of ice expected.
  • WHERE – Athens, Washington and Vinton Counties.
  • WHEN – From midnight Saturday night to 9 AM Sunday.
  • ADDITIONAL DETAILS – A wintry mix can be expected, changing to all snow late Saturday night. Plan on slippery road conditions.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS:
A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of snow, sleet or freezing rain will cause travel difficulties. Expect slippery roads and limited visibilities and use caution while driving.

Winter weather advisory in effect for Athens County from 4AM Saturday, 1/12/19 until 7AM Sunday, 1/13/19.

  • WHAT – Snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches with locally higher amounts of up to 5 inches expected. A period of a rain snow mix is possible across parts of West Virginia Saturday afternoon.
  • WHERE – Portions of southeast Ohio and central, northeast and northern West Virginia.
  • WHEN – From 4 AM Saturday to 7 AM Sunday.
  • ADDITIONAL DETAILS – Plan on slippery road conditions.
