ATHENS COUNTY LEVEL 2 SNOW EMERGENCY

Athens County is under a LEVEL 2 SNOW EMERGENCY.  Roadways are hazardous with blowing and drifting snow. Roads may also be very icy. Only those who feel it is necessary to drive should be out on the roads. Contact your employer to see if you should report to work. Motorists should use extreme caution!

Athens Co Flood Warning for Urban Areas and Small Streams until 415PM Wed, 2/6, seek shelter if threatened by flooding

Flood Warning

The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Warning for Urban Areas and Small Streams in Athens County until 415 PM Wednesday, 2/6/19.

At 1016 AM, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated that heavy rain was falling over the area. The heavy rain will cause flooding. Up to one inch of rain has already fallen.

Some locations that will experience flooding include Athens, Nelsonville, Glouster, Albany, Coolville. Additional rainfall amounts of up to inch are possible in the warned area.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS;
Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.

Please report flooding to the National Weather Service by calling toll free, 800 401 9535, when you can do so safely.

Flood Watch

The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for Athens County from Wednesday 2/6/19 at 12 Noon through Thursday 2/7/19 at 1PM.

Rounds of moderate to heavy rain and the combination of already saturated soils, may cause flooding. Expect to see strong rises in creeks and streams and eventually major rivers. Be prepared for potential closure of some roadways that parallel rivers and creeks.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS:
A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on current forecasts. You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.
