Nelsonville PD determine no threat to public, after reported assault Sun, morning on Chestnut St

NPD Assault

The Nelsonville Police Department responded to a reported assault at 3:31 AM, Sunday, November 11, 2018 in the 600 block of Chestnut Street. Based on the initial investigation by officers, a black male reportedly went to the wrong apartment as he was trying to visit a friend.  An altercation occurred in which the male received injuries for which he was treated at the hospital.  At this time, the investigating officers believes they know all parties involved in the incident and are continuing the investigation into this matter.

The Nelsonville Police Department believes that this was an isolated incident and does not see any threat to the public as a result of this incident. Given other recent incidents, the police department still suggest that residents use general safety precautions.

Nelsonville Aggravated Burglary, Chestnut St, Fri, afternoon, 11/9, contact Nelsonville PD if you have any information

Aggravated Burglary

The Nelsonville Police Department responded to a report of an Aggravated Burglary in an apartment in the 400 block of Chestnut Street at 3:12 PM, Friday, November 9, 2018.  The incident was reported by the resident of the apartment to Athens County 9-1-1, and reported that an intruder was in the residence, and was armed with a screwdriver and threatened to harm the resident. The burglary suspect fled the residence prior to police officers arriving on scene. There were no injuries reported.

The suspect was described as a white male, approximately 40 years old, 6 foot 1 inches tall with a medium build, bald head and scruffy facial hair. The suspect was wearing a burgundy sweater.

Nelsonville Aggravated Armed Robbery, Poplar St, early Sun, 11/4/18, contact Nelsonville PD if you have any information

NPD armed robbery

The Nelsonville Police Department responded to a report of an Aggravated Armed Robbery in the 600 block of Poplar Street at 6:58 AM, Sunday, November 4, 2018. The incident, reported to Athens County 9-1-1, occurred in the alley between Poplar Street and Chestnut Street.  The victim was approached by two men, one African American and one white, while he was starting his vehicle.  Both men were wearing masks and were armed with handguns.  The victim complied with their demands and gave them his wallet and cell phone.  The suspects then fled on foot.
