ATTENTION! The Hocking College School of Public Safety is having a live fire training burn today, Wednesday, May 7, 2025, from 8:00AM until approximately 4:00PM. The live fire training will be located at their new training tower located on Sylvania Avenue. Do not be alarmed if you see smoke and or emergency activity in the area. Please do not call 9-1-1 or the Fire Department.

Athens County Flood Warning until 5:00AM, Sunday, May 4, 2025. Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads!

The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Warning for Athens County and surrounding areas until 5:00AM, Sunday, May 4, 2025.

WHAT…Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.

WHERE…A portion of southeast Ohio, including the following counties, Athens, Jackson, Meigs, Morgan, Perry and Vinton.

WHEN…Until 5:00AM, Sunday, May 4, 2025.

IMPACTS…Flooding of creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS – At 1050 PM, emergency management reported several roads across the area were flooded from prior excessive rainfall this evening. Flooding is already occurring. Between 1 and 1.5 inches of rain has fallen, with up to half an inch of additional rainfall expected overnight.

Some locations that will experience flooding include Athens, Nelsonville, Glouster, Albany, Chauncey, Buchtel, Jacksonville, Trimble, and Amesville.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding.

Report flooding to the National Weather Service by calling toll free, 800 401 9535, when you can do so safely.

Athens Co Severe Thunderstorm Watch in effect until 7PM, Tue, 5/1/2025, watch for rapidly changing weather conditions

The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for Athens County in effect until 7:00PM, Thursday, May 1, 2025.

Remember, a Severe Thunderstorm Watch means conditions are favorable for Severe Thunderstorms in and close to the watch area. Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for threatening weather conditions and listen for later statements and possible warnings. Severe Thunderstorms can and occasionally do produce Tornadoes.
