The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for Athens County from 2:00PM, Tuesday, May 7, 2024, until 11:00 AM, Thursday, May 9, 2024.

WHAT…Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible.

WHERE…Portions of northeast Kentucky, including the following counties, Boyd, Carter, Greenup and Lawrence KY, southeast Ohio, including the following counties, Athens, Gallia, Jackson OH, Lawrence OH, Meigs and Vinton, and West Virginia, including the following counties, Boone, Cabell, Jackson WV, Kanawha, Lincoln, Logan, Mason, Mingo, Putnam, Roane, Wayne, Wirt, and Wood.

WHEN…From 2:00PM, Tuesday, May 7, 2024, until 11:00 AM, Thursday, May 9, 2024.

IMPACTS…Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Low-water crossings may be flooded.

2024 “Thunder In The Valley” fireworks spectacular scheduled for Thursday, July 4, on Hocking College Campus

The annual “Thunder In The Valley” fireworks spectacular is scheduled for Thursday, July 4, 2024 on the Hocking College Campus. Parking is available at Hocking College, and plenty of seating is available on the fields and lots. Parking will not be permitted on Hocking Parkway or State Route 691. Alcoholic beverages are not permitted on the Hocking College Campus. The show can be viewed from most areas of Nelsonville as it lights up the hills of Southeast Ohio.

The Nelsonville Division of Fire is selling VIP tickets for the 2024 “Thunder In The Valley” fireworks spectacular. VIP vehicle parking passes can be purchased for $10.00. If you prefer to walk to the fireworks, you can purchase a VIP walk-in pass for $3.00 per person. Do not wait until the last minute to purchase a VIP parking pass, there are only a limited number of passes available. VIP tickets can be purchased at the Nelsonville Fire Department. The VIP area will open at 5:00PM on July 4th.

Nelsonville Burr Oak Blvd closed E Canal St to Hillside Dr, Mon, 5/6/24, 8AM until Fri, 5/24/24, 5PM, please avoid this area and use an alternate route

The City of Nelsonville announces that Burr Oak Boulevard between East Canal Street and Hillside Drive will be closed to traffic on Monday, May 6, 2024, at 8:00AM until Friday, May 24, 2024, at 5:00PM. The roadway is being closed as part of a water line replacement project. Please avoid this area and use an alternate route.

Nelsonville boil order for Frank St, Williams St, John St, Edwards St, Fredderick St, and Madison St from Edwards to Hocking County Line, until 12PM, Sat, 5/4/24

The Nelsonville Water Department has issued a boil order for all customers on Frank Street, Williams Street, John Street, Edwards Street, Fredderick Street, and Madison Street from Edwards Street to the Hocking County Line, until 12:00PM, Saturday, May 4, 2024. This boil order is necessary due to a tie-in for a new water line.

When a boil order is in effect, we ask all who are affected to boil their cooking and drinking water for three (3) minutes before being consumed.
