The City of Nelsonville Utilities Office will be closed to walk in traffic Friday, November 21, 2025, due to staffing conflicts. Payment can be made through the payment drop box outside City Hall. Payments can also be made online at https://tinyurl.com/2stw3ure. The utilities office will reopen Monday, November 24, 2025, for normal business hours of 7:30AM to 4:00PM. The staff apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your understanding.

NW Athens County Severe Thunderstorm WARNING in effect until Sun, 3/30/2025, at 11:45PM, seek shelter if threatened by severe weather!

The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Northwestern Athens County until 11:45PM Sunday, March 30, 2025.

At 10:52 PM, severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from near Bremen to 10 miles southwest of Hocking Hills State Park, moving east at 45 mph.

HAZARD…60 mph wind gusts and penny size hail.

SOURCE…Radar indicated.

IMPACT…Expect damage to roofs, siding, and trees.

Locations impacted include… Chauncey, Nelsonville, Trimble, Glouster, Jacksonville, The Plains, Buchtel, and Burr Oak State Park.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…Remain alert for a possible tornado! Tornadoes can develop quickly from severe thunderstorms. If you spot a tornado, go at once into the basement or small central room in a sturdy structure. For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building.

The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch in effect for Athens County until Monday, March 31, 2025, at 3:00AM.

Remember, a Severe Thunderstorm Watch means conditions are favorable for Severe Thunderstorms in and close to the watch area. Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for threatening weather conditions and listen for later statements and possible warnings. Severe Thunderstorms can and occasionally do produce Tornadoes.

Winds…South 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph.

Relative Humidity…As low as 15 percent.

Temperatures…Up to 80 to 85 degrees.

Impacts…Enhanced risk of wildfire ignition and spread.
