The National Weather Service has issued a SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING for Western Athens County until 3:30 PM, Wednesday, 3/23/2022. At 2:42 PM, a severe thunderstorm was located near Wellston, moving northeast at 55 mph.

  HAZARD…60 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail.

  SOURCE…Radar indicated.

  IMPACT…Hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect wind damage to roofs, siding, and trees.

Locations impacted include…Athens, Nelsonville, Glouster, Albany, Chauncey, Buchtel, Jacksonville, Trimble, Stroud Run State Park, and The Plains.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…A Tornado Watch remains in effect until 10:00 PM for southeastern Ohio. For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building.

The City of Nelsonville registration for the 2022 Nelsonville Recreation Youth Baseball and Softball league scheduled for Saturday, March 26, 2022 from 4:00PM to 6:00PM is being rescheduled due to predicted bad weather. The registration is rescheduled for Saturday, April 2, 2022 from 2:00PM to 4:00PM. Registration will be held at the Nelsonville City Park shelter house, located to the left as you enter the park. The City of Nelsonville is seeking applications for the City’s Board of Zoning Appeals. To be considered for the Board, the applicant must be an elector of the City of Nelsonville. The Board of Zoning Appeals shall consist of five (5) members serving overlapping terms of five (5) years each.

The Board of Zoning Appeals shall hear and determine applications for variances from the provisions of any zoning ordinances and resolutions, in harmony with the intent and purposes of any zoning ordinances and resolutions and in accordance with procedures provided by the Nelsonville City Charter. The Board of Zoning Appeals shall also hear and determine appeals from any order, requirement, decision, or determination made by the administrative department or administrative officer who is in charge of the enforcement and application of any zoning ordinances and resolutions. The Board shall have such other powers and perform such other duties and functions as provided by ordinance or resolution.

The City of Nelsonville is seeking applications for the City’s Board of Parks and Recreation. To be considered for the Board, the applicant must be an elector of the City of Nelsonville. The Board of Parks and Recreation shall consist of five (5) members serving overlapping terms of five (5) years each.

It shall be the function and duty of this Board of Parks and Recreation to recommend a program to Council for the operation of public parks, recreation facilities, and the acquisition, improvement, construction and maintenance of the parks, parkways, bikeways, and any other services related thereto. The Board’s functions and duties shall be advisory only.

Nelsonville water outage West of Pine Grove to include W Washington from Pine Grove to Dorr Run, Dorr Run, Wend, Diamond Brick, Scenic LN, Ohio Health Urgent Care, Mon, 3/21/22, 9AM to 11:30AM

The Nelsonville Water Department will be shutting off water service for all services West of Pine Grove Drive to include West Washington Street from Pine Grove Drive to Dorr Run Road, all of Dorr Run Road, Wend Road, Diamond Brick Road, Scenic Lane, and Ohio Health Urgent Care, on Monday, March 21, 2022, starting between 9:30AM and 10:00AM, lasting approximately 1 ½ hours. The water outage is due work on the waterline allowing crews to tie in a new waterline. When water service is restored, there will be a boil order until 2:00PM, Tuesday, March 22, 2022.

When a boil order is in effect, we ask all who are affected to boil their cooking and drinking water for three minutes before being consumed.
