The Nelsonville Water Department has issued a boil order for Runyon Lane, C&J Tax Services and 845, 853 Burr Oak Boulevard, due to a water line break and repair on Burr Oak Boulevard. The boil order will be in effect for the area until 12:00PM, Friday, June 27, 2025.

When a boil order is in effect, we ask all who are affected to boil their cooking and drinking water for three (3) minutes before being consumed.

The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Heat Warning for Athens County From 12:00PM, Sunday, June 22 until 8:00PM Wednesday, Jue 25, 2025.

WHAT…Dangerously hot conditions with heat index values up to 105 expected.

WHERE…Portions of northeast Kentucky, southeast Ohio, and central, northern, southern, and western West Virginia.

WHEN…From 12:00PM, Sunday, June 22 until 8:00PM Wednesday, Jue 25, 2025.

IMPACTS…Heat related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat and high humidity events.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances. Car interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.

To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9-1-1.

This could be a prolonged heat wave, with warm, muggy nights providing little relief. Impacts of heat could accumulate over time.
