The National Weather Service has issued a WINTER STORM WARNING for Athens County in effect from 7:00 AM, Saturday, January 24, 2026, until 7:00 AM, Monday, January 26, 2026.

WHAT…Heavy mixed precipitation expected. Total snow accumulation between 9 and 12 inches and ice accumulation around two tenths of an inch.

WHERE…Portions of northeast Kentucky, southeast Ohio, and central, northern, southern, and western West Virginia. Including Athens County.

WHEN…From 7:00 AM, Saturday, January 24, 2026, until 7:00 AM, Monday, January 26, 2026.

IMPACTS…Travel could be very difficult to impossible. The hazardous conditions could impact the Monday morning commute.

Nelsonville expanded boil order Poplar St -Grosvenor to Harper Way, High St -Grosvenor to Campbell, Grosvenor St, Marietta RD, 12PM, Sun, 1/25/26, boil water three (3) minutes before consuming

The Nelsonville Water Department has issued an expanded boil order for Poplar Street from Grosvenor Street to Harper Way, High Street from Grosvenor Street to Campbell Street, Grosvenor Street and Marietta Road.

This boil order is due to a water main break and repair. The boil order will be in effect for the area until 12:00 PM, Sunday January 25, 2026.

When a boil order is in effect, we ask all who are affected to boil their cooking and drinking water for three (3) minutes before being consumed.
