The National Weather Service has issued a WIND CHILL ADVISORY for Athens County from 1:00AM until 11:00AM, Wednesday, 1/17/2024.

WHAT – Very cold wind chills expected. Wind chills as low as 15 below zero.

WHERE – Perry, Morgan, Athens, Washington, and Meigs Counties.

WHEN – From 1:00AM until 11:00AM, Wednesday, 1/17/2024.

IMPACTS – The cold wind chills could result in hypothermia if precautions are not taken.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS – Use caution while traveling outside. Wear appropriate clothing, a hat, and gloves.

The Nelsonville Water Department has issued a boil order for water customers on,

The boil order will be in effect until 12:00PM, Tuesday, January 16, 2024, unless notified otherwise. This boil order is due to a water line break and repair on Burr Oak Boulevard.

When a boil order is in effect, we ask all who are affected to boil their cooking and drinking water for three (3) minutes before being consumed.

Nelsonville water outage and boil order for customers west of but not including Sylvania Ave and Village of Buchtel until 12PM, Tue, 1/16/24

The Nelsonville Water Department is working on a water main leak on Elm Street in Buchtel. The repair work is causing customers in the area a water outage until crews can complete the repair. Areas affected are.

  • Nelsonville water customers west of but not including Sylvania Avenue
  • The Village of Buchtel

Since crews are working on the issue and everyone is aware customers do not need to call in to report it. When water service is restored, there will be a boil order until 12:00PM, Tuesday, January 16, 2024.

When a boil order is in effect, we ask all who are affected to boil their cooking and drinking water for three minutes before being consumed.

WHAT – Southwest winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph expected.

WHERE – Portions of northeast Kentucky, southeast Ohio and central, northeast, northern, southern, and western West Virginia.

WHEN – From 4:00PM, January 12, 2024, until 8:00AM, Saturday, January 13, 2024.

IMPACTS – Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS – Use extra caution when driving, especially if operating a high-profile vehicle. Secure outdoor objects.
