Winter storm warning

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for Athens County from 10PM, Tuesday, 2/6/18 until 4PM, Wednesday, 2/7/28.

  • WHAT – Mixed precipitation this evening quickly changing to freezing rain. Snow accumulations 2 to 4 inches across Perry County, with ice accumulations around a tenth of an inch. Elsewhere, little to no snow and sleet accumulations, though ice accumulation around a quarter of an inch. A change to rain is expected Wednesday morning before changing back to a mix in the afternoon.
  • WHERE – Perry, Morgan, Athens, Jackson OH and Vinton Counties.
  • WHEN – From 10 PM this evening to 4 PM Wednesday.
  • ADDITIONAL DETAILS – Plan on difficult travel conditions. Motorists are strongly urged to slow down and allow plenty of time to reach their destinations. Some power outages are possible due to ice accumulation.

Winter Weather Advisory

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Athens County from 10PM, Tuesday, 2/6/18 until 4PM, Wednesday, 2/7/18.

  • WHAT – Mixed precipitation expected. Total snow accumulations of up to 2 inches, with localized amounts up to 4 inches, and ice accumulations of up to two tenths of an inch are expected.
  • WHERE – Portions of southeast Ohio.
  • WHEN – From 10 PM this evening to 4 PM Wednesday.
  • ADDITIONAL DETAILS – The ice will result in difficult travel conditions and some scattered power outages. Be prepared for reduced visibilities at times in heavier snowfall.

ATHENS COUNTY LEVEL 2 SNOW EMERGENCY

Athens County is under a LEVEL 2 SNOW EMERGENCY.  Roadways are hazardous with blowing and drifting snow. Roads may also be very icy. Only those who feel it is necessary to drive should be out on the roads. Contact your employer to see if you should report to work. Motorists should use extreme caution.
