Nelsonville aquatic center CLOSED weekdays, starting, Thu, 8/24/23, due to schools resuming session, thank you for your understanding

The City of Nelsonville announces that the city’s aquatic center will be closed on weekdays due to area schools resuming session beginning Thursday, August 24, 2023, and opening on weekends only starting Saturday, August 26, 2023, throughout the remainder of the season. The aquatic center’s last scheduled day to be open for the 2023 season is Monday, September 4, 2023.

The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the appointment of a full-time police officer to an open position. Additionally, the city council will interview a city manager candidate and discuss pending litigation. Athens Co Heat Advisory in effect Fri, 7/28/23, 11AM until 9PM, Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses

The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for Athens County and surrounding areas in effect Friday, July 28, 2023, from 1:00 AM until 9:00 PM.

WHAT – Heat index values up to 105 expected.

WHERE – Portions of southeast Ohio, southwest Virginia, and central, northern and southern West Virginia.

WHEN – From 11 AM to 9 PM Friday, July 28, 2023.

IMPACTS – Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses to occur.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances.

Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing when possible. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9-1-1.
