The City of Nelsonville announces that the North end of the Public Square will be closed to traffic at the Washington Street intersections, from 8:00AM, Thursday, November 6, 2025, until 8:00AM, Friday, November 6, 2025. The street is being closed so that crews can repair the trench from the new waterline project.

Please avoid this area and use an alternate route.

Nelsonville City Council special meeting Wed, 11/5/2025, 8PM, the public is invited and encouraged to attend

The Nelsonville City Council will hold a special meeting on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, at 8:00 PM, at City Hall. The meeting has been called by the City Council President to consider and discuss and possibly act on authorization and instruction to the City Attorney to initiate legal action against the Secretary of State and Athens County Board of Election relative to the 2025 general election.

The Nelsonville Food Cupboard is expanding its hours during the SNAP shutdown

The Nelsonville Food Cupboard is expanding its hours during the SNAP shutdown. Until SNAP is restored, the pantry will be open on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 12PM-3PM to distribute food.

The Nelsonville Food Cupboard is located at 1950 Mount Saint Mary’s Drive (the former hospital) at the rear of the building.

Families may visit the pantry one time each month. They also may visit the other food pantries in Athens County. Thank you!!

The City of Nelsonville announces a change of plans for the Public Square water services being shut off.

On Monday, November 3, 2025, the entire Public Square, will have its water service shut off from 8:00AM until 3:00PM, to allow for a tie over to the new water line. A boil order will be in effect for this area until 3:00PM, Wednesday, November 5, 2025.

When a boil order is in effect, we ask all who are affected to boil their cooking and drinking water for three (3) minutes before being consumed.

Time change 2025: It’s time to fall back 1 hour, 2AM Sun, 11/2, end daylight saving time!

It’s time to change the clocks again.

Most in the U.S. adjust their clocks backward and forward by an hour twice a year — in the spring and then in the fall.

The time to “fall back” is upon us and to end daylight saving time. Clocks will be adjusted from 2 a.m. to 1 a.m. on Sunday, November 2, 2025.

Sunrise and sunset will be about an hour earlier starting on Sunday than the day before. There will be more light in the morning.

Daylight saving time will return on Sunday, March 8, 2026, and time will spring forward 1 hour.

The City of Nelsonville announces the following no parking and closure for West Washington Street.

  • NO PARKING South side of West Washington Street from Madison Street to Saving Hardware, 8:00AM, Monday, November 3, 2025, until 5:00PM, Wednesday, November 5, 2025.
  • CLOSED from Madison Street to Saving Hardware, 8:00AM, Wednesday, November 5, 2025, until 5:00PM, Friday, November 7, 2025.

The no parking and street closure is necessary due to sanitary sewer repair, concrete trench repair.

The City of Nelsonville Street Department will start curbside leaf pick-up on Monday, November 3, 2025, and continue the following days in November and December.

  • November –
    • Monday – 3rd, Wednesday – 5th, Friday – 7th, Tuesday – 11th, Thursday – 13th, Monday – 17th, Wednesday – 19th, Friday – 21st, Tuesday – 25th
  • December –
    • Monday – 1st, Wednesday – 3rd, Friday – 5th

Leaf pick-up will take place each day from 8:00 AM until 3:00 PM, depending on the weather conditions.

Follow these steps for curbside leaf pick-up.

  1. Rake leaves to curbside, DO NOT include branches, sticks, grass clippings or tall grass. These can clog and damage the equipment and cause delays. City crews will not be raking any leaves.
  2. DO NOT rake leaves into the street. This can clog storm drains.
  3. DO NOT pile leaves around fire hydrants, street signs or utility poles.
  4. DO NOT PARK in front of leaf piles on pick-up days.
  5. When your leaves are curbside and ready, schedule curbside leaf pick-up by using Nelsonville’s “TextMyGov, text “Hi” to 740-265-3858 and a series of texts will guide you through the reporting process, or call, 740-753-1314, Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:00pm.
