Winter Weather Advisory

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS ISSUED A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY FOR SNOW FOR ATHENS COUNTY WHICH IS IN EFFECT UNTIL 3 PM, MONDAY, 2/15.

  • HAZARD – SNOW, ISOLATED POCKETS OF FREEZING RAIN MONDAY.
  • SNOW ACCUMULATIONS – 1 TO 3 INCHES.
  • ICE ACCUMULATIONS – A TRACE.
  • TEMPERATURES – STEADY OR SLOWLY RISING THROUGH MONDAY.
  • IMPACTS – UNTREATED ROADS WILL BE COME SNOW COVERED CREATING HAZARDOUS TRAVEL CONDITIONS.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS: A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY FOR SNOW MEANS THAT PERIODS OF SNOW WILL CAUSE PRIMARILY TRAVEL DIFFICULTIES. BE PREPARED FOR SNOW COVERED ROADS AND LIMITED VISIBILITIES AND USE CAUTION WHILE DRIVING.

Snow Emergency 2

Athens County is under a LEVEL 2 SNOW EMERGENCY. Roadways are hazardous with blowing and drifting snow. Roads may also be very icy. Only those who feel it is necessary to drive should be out on the roads. Contact your employer to see if you should report to work. Motorists should use extreme caution.  Vehicles abandoned on roadways may be subject to being towed.  Do not leave vehicles on roadways!

The Nelsonville City Council announces that there will be a Judiciary Committee meeting on Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at 7:30 pm in council chambers. Topics of discussion will be illegal dumping in commercial dumpsters, as well as personnel matters in the City Auditor’s office. The public is invited and encouraged to attend.

Nelso Committee Meeting

The Nelsonville City Council announces that there will be a Street Committee meeting on Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at 6:30 pm in council chambers. The Complete Streets grants and how to apply to city projects will be discussed, as well as, street signs and returning Pine Grove Drive from Canal Street up to Franklin Street to a two-way street. The public is invited and encouraged to attend.
