Flood Warning for NW Athens Co until 945AM, Fri, 3/31/17, seek shelter if threatened, stay out of flood waters

Flood Warning

The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Warning for Northwestern Athens County until 945 AM, Friday, 3/31/17.

Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated that moderate rain was falling over the area. The rain will cause flooding. Up to two inches of rain have already fallen, and more rain is expected through the morning hours. Most of the rain is resulting in high runoff at this point. Area creeks and streams will come out of their banks and poor draining low lying areas will flood. Localized road flooding is also expected, especially in urban areas where drainage is poor and in low spots near streams.

Some locations that will experience flooding include Athens, Nelsonville, Glouster, Chauncey, Buchtel, Jacksonville, Murray City, Trimble, and Burr Oak State Park.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS;
Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.

Please report Severe Weather to the National Weather Service by calling toll free, 800 401 9535, when you can do so safely.

You may also report severe weather by posting your report to the Charleston West Virginia National Weather Service Facebook Page, or by using the Twitter Hashtag, #NWSRLX.
