The City of Nelsonville announces that all City offices will be closed on Thursday, November 28, 2019 and Friday, November 29, 2019 in observance of the Thanksgiving Holiday. City offices will re-open for business on Monday, December 2, 2019 for regular business hours.
The City of Nelsonville announces that the Public Square will be closed on Saturday, November 16, 2019 from 10:00 AM until 12:00 Noon. The Public Square is being closed for the Athens Bando Kickboxing Club 5K walk-fun run. The 5K walk-fun run will also be using Washington, Jefferson, Poplar, Campbell, Pine Grove, Columbus, Franklin, Madison, Grosvenor and Findley Streets.
Please use caution when traveling in theses areas or use an alternate route.
The National weather service has issued a winter weather advisory for Athens County from 10PM Monday, 11/11/19 until 12Noon Tuesday, 11/12/19.
ADDITIONAL DETAILS: Rain this evening will switch over to all snow during the night, with snow ending from west to east Tuesday morning. As the snow begins, both air and road temperatures will quickly fall to below freezing, resulting in slick roadways. A few bursts of heavier snow may occur between midnight and sunrise, resulting in very poor visibilities and further enhancing hazardous driving conditions.

The Nelsonville Water Department has issued a boil order for all of Mill Street.
The Boil Order has been issued due to a repair for a leak on the mainline. When a boil order is in effect, we ask those affected to boil their drinking and cooking water for three minutes before being consumed.
This Boil Order is in effect until further notice, unless notified otherwise.
The City of Nelsonville Finance Committee will hold meetings on Thursday, November 7, 2019 and Tuesday, November 12, 2019 at 7:00PM at City Hall. The meetings are being held to discuss the 2020 City budget. The public is invited and encouraged to attend.

The following incident has been listed by Athens County Crime Solvers Anonymous as the November 2019 Crimes of the Month.
The Athens Police Department is requesting your
information pertaining to crimes which occurred in the City.
#1 – On September 5, 2019 at
12:155 AM, the Athens Police Department responded to Rufus Dr. for an armed
robbery that had just occurred. The
victim explained they were approached by a white male, thin build, 5’8” tall,
wearing a dark colored shirt and had short dark colored hair. A handgun was pointed at the victim and the
suspect was provided a wallet. The
suspect then fled to an early 2000’s model black four door car which was
waiting nearby.
Shortly after the aforementioned robbery was reported to police, 20 minutes later, an officer was flagged down by an individual on S. Shafer St. The individual advised they were just robbed at gunpoint. The individual described the suspect as 5’7” tall, thin build, dark hair, and a scruffy goatee. The suspect went to a waiting car and fled the area. The board has approved a $2000 reward for these combined incidences.
#2 – On October 28, 2019 at 9:40 PM, the Athens Police Department and the Athens Fire Department responded to East Park Dr, near the Athens Wastewater Treatment Facility, for a vehicle fire. When agencies arrived, the vehicle, a Toyota Tacoma P/U, was found fully engulfed in flames and no one around. The fire was extinguished but the vehicle is a total loss. The board has approved a $2000 reward for this incident.
Athens County Crime Solvers Anonymous is offering a cash reward for information on the above crime if that information leads to the arrest and indictment of the person or persons responsible. *Information on serious misdemeanors will be limited up to a $1000.00 cash reward. **Any information that leads to the arrest of an individual responsible for graffiti, the board can authorize up to a $500.00 cash reward.
