Athens County is under a LEVEL 3 SNOW EMERGENCY. All roadways are closed to non-emergency personnel. No one should be driving during these conditions unless it is absolutely necessary to travel, or a personal emergency exists. All employees should contact their employer to see if they should report to work. Those traveling on the roads may subject themselves to arrest.

ATHENS COUNTY LEVEL 1 SNOW EMERGENCY

Athens County is under a LEVEL 1 SNOW EMERGENCY. Roadways are hazardous with blowing and drifting snow. Roads may also be icy. Motorists are urged to drive very cautiously.

The National Weather Service in Charleston has issued a Flood Watch for Athens County from 1PM Saturday, 1/19/19 until 4AM Sunday, 1/20/19.
Rain will overspread the area Saturday and continue into the overnight hours. Rainfall amounts between 1 and 2 inches are forecast. Ground conditions are wet, and most of this rain is expected to runoff into streams, creeks and rivers. This will cause strong rises and possible flooding conditions throughout the watch area.
Flooding of low lying and poor drainage areas, and roads along streams, creeks and rivers is possible.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS:
A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on current forecasts. You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.

A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of snow, sleet or freezing rain will cause travel difficulties. Expect slippery roads and limited visibilities and use caution while driving.

The City of Nelsonville Finance Committee will hold a meeting on Thursday, January 24, 2019 at 7:00PM in council chambers at City Hall. The meeting is being held to discuss appropriations and the 2019 City budget. The public is invited and encouraged to attend.

The City of Nelsonville announces that all City offices will be closed on Monday, January 21, 2019 in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr Day. City offices will re-open for business on Tuesday, January 22, 2019 for regular business hours.
