The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch for Athens County until 10 PM this evening, Sunday, 7/7/19.
Showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop this afternoon and evening. These storms will be very slow moving and could produce 1 to 2 inches of rain or more in a short period of time. This rainfall, combined with a nearly saturated wet ground, could result in flash flooding.
Flooding of urban and poor drainage areas will be possible. In addition, flooding of small creeks and streams could occur. People residing near creeks and streams should monitor the forecast and be prepared to take immediate action if flooding occurs.
A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation. You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should Flash Flood Warnings be issued.
