The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch for a portion of southeast Ohio, including Athens County until 10:00 PM Thursday, July 4, 2019.
Much of the area has already received 1 to 3 inches of rainfall, saturating the soil. Additional thunderstorms are forecast Wednesday and Thursday, which could lead to flash flooding.
Flooding of urban and other poor drainage areas, as well as creek and small stream flooding, is possible. People residing near creeks and small streams should monitor the latest forecasts, and prepare to take immediate action should flooding occur, or if a flash flood warning is issued.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS;
A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash
flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation. You should monitor
later forecasts and be prepared to take action should Flash Flood Warnings be
issued.
