Flash Flood Watch

The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch for Athens County from 12 Noon, Thursday, 7/5/18 until 1:00 AM, Friday, 7/6/18.

  • Slow moving thunderstorms capable of producing heavy rainfall rates are likely, and may result in rapid rises of water.
  • Diurnal heating, orographic lift, and abundant moisture will combine to produce thunderstorms capable to produce rainfall rates of 1.5 to 2 inches per hour.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS; A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should Flash Flood Warnings be issued.
