PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances.

Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.

The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for Athens County until Saturday, July 19, 2025, at 2:00 AM.

WHAT…Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible.

WHERE…Athens County and surrounding areas.

WHEN… Until Saturday, July 19, 2025, at 2:00 AM.

IMPACTS…Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS…Multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms over areas of saturated ground will lead to the possibility of flash flooding. Most areas will see 0.5 to 1.5 inches with some areas receiving more than 3 inches.

The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for Athens County until 3:00AM, Thursday, June 19, 2025.

Remember, a Severe Thunderstorm Watch means conditions are favorable for Severe Thunderstorms in and close to the watch area. Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for threatening weather conditions and listen for later statements and possible warnings. Severe Thunderstorms can and occasionally do produce Tornadoes.

Athens County Flash Flood Warning until 10:15 PM, turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads

The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Warning for Athens County until 10:15 PM.

At 6:21 PM, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 1 and 1.5 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts up to 1.5 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly.

  HAZARD…Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.

  IMPACT…Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas.

Some locations that will experience flash flooding include Athens, Nelsonville, Glouster, Albany, Chauncey, Buchtel, Jacksonville, Trimble, The Plains, Carpenter and Stroud Run State Park.

The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Warning for Athens County and surrounding areas until 5:00AM, Sunday, May 4, 2025.

WHAT…Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.

WHERE…A portion of southeast Ohio, including the following counties, Athens, Jackson, Meigs, Morgan, Perry and Vinton.

WHEN…Until 5:00AM, Sunday, May 4, 2025.

IMPACTS…Flooding of creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS – At 1050 PM, emergency management reported several roads across the area were flooded from prior excessive rainfall this evening. Flooding is already occurring. Between 1 and 1.5 inches of rain has fallen, with up to half an inch of additional rainfall expected overnight.

Some locations that will experience flooding include Athens, Nelsonville, Glouster, Albany, Chauncey, Buchtel, Jacksonville, Trimble, and Amesville.
