The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Advisory for Athens County in effect from 11:00 AM until 8:00 PM, Saturday, March 25, 2023.

WHAT…Southwest winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 45 mph expected.

WHERE…Portions of northeast Kentucky, southeast Ohio and central, northeast, northern, southeast, southern and western West Virginia.

WHEN…From 11:00 AM until 8:00 PM, Saturday, March 25, 2023.

IMPACTS…Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS… Use extra caution when driving, especially if operating a high profile vehicle. Secure outdoor objects.

Athens Co FLOOD WARNING until 8:15PM, Fri 3/24/23, small stream flooding from excessive rainfall is occurring

The National Weather Service has issued a FLOOD WARNING for Athens County in effect until 8:15PM, Friday, 3/24/23.

WHAT…Small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall is occurring.

WHERE…A portion of southeast Ohio, including the following counties, Athens and Vinton.

WHEN…Until 8:15PM, Friday, 3/24/23.

IMPACTS…Flooding of small creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Streams continue to rise due to excess runoff from earlier rainfall. Between 1.5 and 2 inches of rain have fallen.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS

– At 1022 AM EDT, Several roads are reported closed due to flooding. This includes parts of State Routes 328 and 56 in Vinton County. Portions of State Routes 356, 681, 56 and 681 are reported closed in Athens County.

– Some locations that will experience flooding include… Mcarthur, Albany, Chauncey, Zaleski, Amesville, The Plains, Creola, and Eagle Mills.

The National Weather Service has issued a High Wind Warning for Athens County until 3:00AM, Saturday, 3/4/23.

WHAT…Southwest winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 65 mph.

WHERE…Portions of northeast Kentucky, southeast Ohio, southwest Virginia and central, southern and western West Virginia.

WHEN…Until 3:00AM, Saturday, 3/4/23.

IMPACTS…Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages are expected. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS… People should avoid being outside in forested areas and around trees and branches. If possible, remain in the lower levels of your home during the windstorm, and avoid windows. Use caution if you must drive.

Western Athens Co Severe Thunderstorm Warning until 745PM Fri, 3/3/23, 60 mph wind gusts, damage to roofs, siding, and trees

The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Western Athens County until 745 PM. At 657 PM, a line of severe thunderstorms was located 8 miles west of Rutland, moving east at 60 mph.

HAZARD…60 mph wind gusts.

The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Western Athens County until 530 PM. At 455 PM, a severe thunderstorm was located over Jackson, moving east at 65 mph.
