The City of Nelsonville Water Department has issued a boil order for Grovsenor Street and Marietta Road water customers in Nelsonville until further notice. Boil orders are put into place as a result of broken water lines or local flooding. When this happens, the drinking water may have been contaminated which can cause many illnesses.

The Athens Police Department is requesting your information pertaining to a criminal act which occurred within the City.
On January 19, 2017 at 1:56 AM, members of the Athens Police Department responded to 20 Brown Ave. on what the caller had described as an explosion. Upon arrival on scene, it was determined the explosion was actually the discharging of a firearm. A resident had been shot while he was inside the residence. First aid was administered until Athens County Emergency Medical Services personnel arrived. The resident was transported to OhioHealth O’Bleness Hospital and was later transferred.

On January 11, 2017 at approximately 8:10 PM, the Nelsonville Police Department responded to 65 Crihfield Dr. apartment B for an active burglary and the suspect was pointing a firearm at the resident. Prior to the officers arrival, the suspect, who is described as a white male in his mid-thirties, fled the scene in a red “sports car.”
The Athens County Sheriff’s Office is requesting your information pertaining to criminal acts which occurred within the County.
On October 28, 2016 at approximately 10:10 AM, the Athens County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Hocking Valley Bank in Coolville for a bank robbery that had just occurred. The suspect, who had already fled the area on foot, was described as a white male wearing blue jeans, a Carhartt jacket and a white-billed hat.
On November 12, 2016 at approximately 11:30 PM, the Athens County Sheriff’s Office responded to 9 Roy Ave, The Plains for an aggravated burglary that had just occurred. The elderly resident advised the suspect had forcibly entered the residence and left a short time later with some of the resident’s personal belongings.
On December 26, 2016 at approximately 7:20 PM, the Athens County Sheriff’s Office responded to 4226 Old St Rt 56 in New Marshfield for an aggravated burglary which had just occurred. The victim explained to deputies a male subject, 5’08’ to 5’10” with a stocky build, wearing a mask, knocked on his door. Upon answering the door, the male pointed a gun at him and ordered the victim to give him his valuables. After being given money and car keys, the male fled from the scene on foot.
The Ohio University Police Department is requesting your information pertaining to a criminal act which occurred on campus.
On February 5, 2017 at approximately 4:00 AM, a female student was walking to her dormitory on South Green when an unknown male approached her. The male was described as white, 5’06”, having an average build, short hair, and was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, khaki pants, and sperry-type shoes. The victim estimated the male to be in his late twenties. The male followed the victim into Armbruster House, which is located at 129 South Green Dr., and then sexually assaulted her.
Athens County Crime Solvers Anonymous is offering a $2,000.00 cash reward for information on the above crimes if that information leads to the arrest and indictment of the person or persons responsible. *Information on serious misdemeanors will be limited to a $1000.00 cash reward. **Any information that leads to the arrest of an individual responsible for graffiti, the board can authorize up to a $500.00 cash reward. The Nelsonville Finance Committee will hold a meeting on Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at 4:00 pm in council chambers at City Hall. The meeting is being held to discuss the City budget. The public is invited and encouraged to attend.

The Nelsonville City Council will hold a special Council meeting on Monday, March 6, 2017 at 6:00 pm and Saturday, March 11, 2017 at 1:00 pm in Council Chambers at City Hall. The purpose of these meetings is to hold an executive session to conduct interviews for the City Managers position.

The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Warning for Northwestern Athens County until 200 PM.
At 1101 AM, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain has ended, however streams and creeks will continue to rise as runoff enters the waterways. Many small streams and creeks are either at bank full or have overflowed their banks and it will still take several hours for the water to recede. Continue to use caution when traveling and be aware of ongoing road closures due to high water.
Some locations that will experience flooding include Athens, Nelsonville, Glouster, Chauncey, Buchtel, Jacksonville, Murray City and Trimble.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS; Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.
