Nelsonville reminds everyone that a LEVEL 3 Snow Emergency is in effect, roadways are closed to non-emergency personnel, TRAVELING ON THE ROADS MAY RESULT IN ARREST

The City of Nelsonville would like to remind everyone what a level 3 snow emergency means. Nelsonville and Athens County are currently experiencing a severe winter storm. The Athens County Sheriff’s Office issued a LEVEL 3 Snow Emergency for Athens County at 11:20 PM, Sunday, January 5, 2025, and is currently still in effect.

So, what does a level 3 snow emergency mean? All roadways are closed to non-emergency personnel. No one should be driving during these conditions unless it is absolutely necessary to travel, or a personal emergency exists. All employees should contact their employer to see if they should report to work. THOSE TRAVELING ON THE ROADS MAY SUBJECT THEMSELVES TO ARREST.

All roadways are closed to non-emergency personnel for the safety of the public, and to allow road crews to remove snow from the roadways unhindered by vehicle traffic. Unless you have an emergency, you should not be driving during a level 3 snow emergency.

Please stay off the roads and let the road crews do their jobs. Thank you and STAY HOME AND STAY SAFE.
