Athens Co WINTER STORM WARNING from 7AM, Sun, 1/5/25, until 7PM, Mon, 1/6/25, Heavy mixed precipitation expected

The National Weather Service has issued a WINTER STORM WARNING for Athens County and surrounding areas from 7:00AM, Sunday, January 5, 2025, until 7:00PM, Monday, January 6, 2025.

WHAT – Heavy mixed precipitation expected. Total snow accumulations between 5 and 8 inches and ice accumulations up to a quarter of an inch.

WHERE – Portions of northeast Kentucky and southeast Ohio including Athens County.

WHEN – From 7:00AM, Sunday, January 5, 2025, until 7:00PM, Monday, January 6, 2025.

IMPACTS – Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous. Significant ice accumulation on power lines and tree limbs may cause widespread and long-lasting power outages. Power outages and tree damage are likely due to the ice. Travel could be nearly impossible. The hazardous conditions could impact the Monday morning and evening commutes.
