Athens Co Flood Watch in effect Thu, 8/10/23, 4AM until 2PM, be prepared to take action should Flash Flood Warnings be issued!

The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for Athens County in effect Thursday, August 10, 2023, from 4:00 AM until 2:00 PM.

WHAT…Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible.

WHERE…Portions of southeast Ohio, including the following counties, Athens, Gallia, Jackson OH, Meigs, Morgan, Perry, Vinton and Washington. Portions of West Virginia, including the following counties, Barbour, Braxton, Calhoun, Doddridge, Gilmer, Harrison, Jackson WV, Lewis, Mason, Pleasants, Ritchie, Roane, Taylor, Tyler, Upshur, Wirt and Wood.

WHEN… Thursday, August 10, 2023, from 4:00 AM until 2:00 PM.

IMPACTS…Excessive run-off may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. Low-water crossings may be flooded.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS…A potent, moisture-laden low-pressure system will bring rain, heavy at times, Thursday morning. Rainfall totals of 1 to 2 inches, with locally higher amounts, are possible in the watch area.
