Nelsonville Elizabeth St closed Clinton St to College St, Thu, 5/28/2020 to Fri, 6/5/2020, weekdays only, 7AM to 6PM

The City of Nelsonville announces that Elizabeth Street will be closed from Clinton Street to College Street, Thursday, May 28, 2020 through Friday, June 5, 2020, weekdays only.  The roadway will be closed each day from 7:00AM until 6:00PM.  The roadway is being closed for an R&R Pipeline gas line repair project, weather permitting.  Please use an alternate route.

Nelsonville Grover St closure Fort St to Oak St extended to, Mon, 5/25/20 and Tue, 5/26/20, 7AM to 6PM

The City of Nelsonville announces that the Grover Street closure from Fort Street to Oak Street has been extended to include, Monday, May 25, 2020 and Tuesday, May 26, 2020 due to weather delays.  The roadway will be closed each day from 7:00AM until 6:00PM.  The roadway is being closed for an R&R Pipeline gas line repair project, weather permitting.  Please use an alternate route.

2020 Nelsonville Rec Youth Baseball and Softball CANCELED Due to COVID-19, sponsors and parents will be reimbursed

Due to the current COVID-19 to be a global pandemic, the City of Nelsonville regrets to announce the cancelation of the 2020 Nelsonville Recreation Youth Baseball and Softball league. Any 2020 league sponsors and parents who have already paid will be reimbursed. We would like to thank everyone for their cooperation and dedication to Nelsonville youth.

ATHENS CO FLASH FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT THROUGH 8AM THU, 5/21/2020, WATCH FOR CHANGING WEATHER CONDITIONS

The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch to include portions of southeast Ohio and West Virginia, including the following areas, in southeast Ohio, Athens, Meigs, Morgan, Vinton and Washington. In West Virginia, Jackson WV, Pleasants, Ritchie, Wirt and Wood.

  • Through Thursday 5/21/2020 at 8AM
  • A slow-moving low-pressure system will produce off and on moderate to heavy showers and possible thunderstorms. The repetitive nature could lead to quick rises on creeks and streams and flooding of low-lying areas.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS;
A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead to Flash Flooding. Flash Flooding is a very dangerous situation. You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should Flash Flood Warnings be issued.

  • Do not enter or cross flowing water or water of unknown depth.
  • Stay away or be swept away. Riverbanks and culverts can become unstable and unsafe.

Due to social distancing recommendations on preventing the spread of the COVID-19, Nelsonville City Council will be meeting via a virtual meeting. The public may not attend the meeting in person.
